After living in Bangkok for over a year I have learned many things about the Thai people that I wanted to know, together with other foreigners living or vacation here. The first thing you need to accept is that eastern culture is different. The people in the east are less emotional and more polite, and while they know westerners are different, are often uncomfortable, if we depart from the standards. The things I have found to be important are listed below in order ofMeaning:
Be courteous - keep Thais is especially polite. Their language is very polite built into it. If you are at what is considered "courtesy" you will be fine.
Thai King - The Thai love their king, King Rama IX. Never show any kind of disrespect to him or the royal family. The Thais have a deep reverence for the tradition of the royal family, and visitors should also respect for the king and the queenand the royal children. When participating in public events, which is a member of the royal family present, the best guide on how to behave, to see the crowd and do what she does.
Security - Stealth crimes like pickpocketing are the most common problem, so it's worth, keeps a watchful eye on your belongings at all times and aware of the nature of the people around you. Gratuitous violence against tourists are rare, but it's worth, common sense.
NationalReligion - Buddhism is Thailand's national religion, with almost 95% of Thailand 's population, the Buddhists. All Buddha images are considered sacred, and there are laws against removing these images for anything other that personal worship.
Buddhist monks - Buddhist monks are quickly from their shaved heads, feet and wear the bright orange robes recognized. It is forbidden for women to touch Buddhist monks, including this one woman handing something to aMonk, the shipments should be first to a man who hands the item given to the monk. Moreover, the men in the West should try never to shake hands with a monk.
Buddhist Temple - The wearing of shoes at a temple is acceptable, but they should be removed when the entry of their church (the area where the Buddha image is).
Be Quiet - Loud people considered rude. Speak softly and not laugh out loud. Of course there are the common places such as bars,Celebrations and parks, which is expected to appropriate and not loud.
Greetings - Greetings in Thailand can be quite formal in appearance to the Western eye. The basic gesture is to put your hands together, fingers up, with a slight bow of the head. The words "see dee (KRUP)" (or "Kaw") for women are spoken during arc fm. It is difficult for Thais, with three levels, age and position, but attempts to get this greeting the West does not expect tounderstand. (Levels: 1 Monk, the thumbs touching his forehead Durin sheets, 2 the same age or older, the thumbs touching lips, and 3 younger people, the thumbs touching his chin.)
Food - Eating in Thailand is usually HOT, hot. Most Westerners can not handle enjoy the amount of chili spice and the Thai people. For the Westerners, foreigners can visit the best tip I give is to ask to ensure that the food less spicy. There are two phrases used to be on the basis of preference: 1) "maiped "- not spicy and 2)" ped nit noi "- a little spicy. The food in Thailand is awesome, and this tip will help you enjoy it even more. In the near future I will publish a description would be my favorite dishes. Stay tuned.
Street Food - There is an old Thai saying: "A little dirt makes the food a little more delicious () rough translation. For the West, buying food on the street can impact on your health with the possible contraction of the variousgastro intestinal problems. While most of the tents are set up, clean it only by local standards. I live by "rule of thumb" that has served well, lives in Bangkok. This rule is simple, but you have to leave it at that. It is "only from the streets, eat cooked before you." This will ensure that the food is cooked in its entirety a second time, before you eat. Unfortunately, this prevents a lot of food on the street was, but better safe than sorry after week.
Body Odor - ThaiPeople almost never smell badly, and they find it offensive if others do.
Crowds - if you prepare the areas to go to Thailand during Thai holidays and festivals are to meet many people. To the Western experience the volume of these areas can be incredible. Be ready to push and pushed and aware that it no harm. This sense of personal space is quite different from Westerners.
Watch where you walk - The sidewalks in Bangkokare uneven and full of obstacles, attentive. Oh, also the streets, many stray dogs, the dogs are not aggressive, but do not leave landmines on the sidewalk.
Taxi Driver - Most taxi drivers are in order. In general, it is always better to use the metered taxis. Tuk are getting more expensive and with Bangkok traffic you could be breathing in a lot of smog on the road. When you negotiate a considerable distance to go ... Besides, the taxis, "We love farang, we speakEnglish ", well, most of them do not. They have a radio that is a person who knows a little English.
Cinema - The Advertising and right before the film is a homage to the Thai King to come and is in all respects.
Driving in Thailand - If you are brave and decide that you want to travel around Thailand is not to be too worried, it's really not that bad. There are only understand a few things.Drivers used, instead of the left side of the law, as in the U.S., and the streets are generally narrower than in the U.S.. Making driving next to a bus or truck can be a little intimidating.
Toilets - Eastern toilets can be very intimidating even for the Western traveler. Note that the eastern toilets are surrounded by little more than holes in the ground by ceramic and include water, not paper, for cleaning. To be honest, I used not received this type of facility to itsin its entirety. Moreover, there are many women in the men's room, there are stationed for cleaning. It can be very irritating when you first experience this, but they are not there more than cleaning.
Following these tips you can provide a better understanding of the Thai people and have more fun in your stay in Bangkok have, so the locals more comfortable with you and give you a better understanding of how things work in Thailand.
